We Want....PATERNO FIELD - CLICK TO WATCH

An announcement from Mr. Warren Armstrong, PSU Class of 1960.

It’ s time to honor Coach Paterno for his 61 years of coaching at
Penn State! Encourage the University to name the football field:

Joe Paterno Field at Beaver Stadium

Committee for Joe Paterno Field at Beaver Stadium, Warren Armstrong ‘ 60, Chair

BACKGROUND ON THE EFFORT: Last July 27th, I wrote President Spanier and A.D. Tim Curley outlining the reasons why I believe it makes sense to name the field after Coach Paterno, not the least of it being that he essentially BUILT the stadium and over the years has raised over abillion dollars for the University! The precedent for naming the field after a football coach is Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium and Alabama honoring “Bear” Bryant with the name Bryant-Denny Stadium. On October 26, I got a letter from Tim Curley regarding my proposal. Subsequently, I talked with Tim over the phone and he essentially thought the idea made sense. The upshot was that he asked me to hold off on implementing the marketing/ advertising campaign I had outlined to him. At the game on Sept. 12th with Syracuse, students on the East Side of the stadium displayed a sign that read “Petition for Paterno Field”. At the press conference afterwards, a sportswriter asked Joe what he thought of the idea. Joe said….”that’s for other people to decide. Obviously I ’d be flattered and I think it would be nice but it isn’t something I think about.”

SUPPORT: You might ask if there is any support for this effort to name the field after Joe. Virtually everyone I’ ve talked to thinks it is a good idea and the timing is right but I also believe that it is necessary to have many more Penn State alumni and fans let the University administration know they personally support the idea. There are 2 internet sites that some fans implemented last fall (paternofield.com and pettitiononline.com) but collectively they have (324 members as 10/8/10). I personally do not think that websites and Facebook are effective means of communicating the message to the PSU administration at this point in time. I n addition, I believe it would be counter- productive to send email messages to President Spanier and A.D. Tim Curley. The most effective method is write personal letters addressed to each of them. Get as many PSU friends to also write letters. Here are the addresses:

I'm so thankful for such an assignment; keep it up! I wonder how to write an analysis paper on the chosen topic? Have you got any ideas, guys?
